Zoom out from an average adult to Christ the Redeemer
Christ the Redeemer is too big to show next to an average adult in one picture, so here it is in 2 steps. Each step is drawn to its own scale and zooms out from the step before.
-
Step 1 of 2 Human → Megalodon
A megalodon is about 8.6–15 times as long as an average adult is tall.
Step 1: Human and Megalodon at the same scale. -
Step 2 of 2 Megalodon → Christ the Redeemer
Christ the Redeemer is about 1.6–2.5 times as tall as a megalodon is long.
Step 2: Megalodon and Christ the Redeemer at the same scale.

About Christ the Redeemer
Christ the Redeemer is a reinforced-concrete statue of Jesus with outstretched arms on the summit of Mount Corcovado above Rio de Janeiro, clad in a mosaic of small triangular soapstone tiles. Designed by engineer Heitor da Silva Costa with French sculptor Paul Landowski, it was built from 1926 and dedicated on 12 October 1931. The figure is 30 m tall and stands on an 8 m pedestal, giving 38 m in all, and its arms span 28 m.
- The sanctuary compares the 38 m monument to a 13-storey building; each arm has an area of 88 square metres and the head weighs 30 tonnes. [1]
- Inside, 12 platforms linked by stairs lead up to hatches that open in the arms and the head; they are used only by maintenance staff. [1]
- The summit of Corcovado on which it stands is 704 m (2,310 ft) high. [2]
- Britannica describes it as the largest Art Deco sculpture in the world. [2]
