Zoom out from an average adult to the Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower is too big to show next to an average adult in one picture, so here it is in 3 steps. Each step is drawn to its own scale and zooms out from the step before.
-
Step 1 of 3 Human → Megalodon
A megalodon is about 8.6–15 times as long as an average adult is tall.
Step 1: Human and Megalodon at the same scale. -
Step 2 of 3 Megalodon → Gateway Arch
The Gateway Arch is about 7.9–13 times as tall as a megalodon is long.
Step 2: Megalodon and Gateway Arch at the same scale. -
Step 3 of 3 Gateway Arch → Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower is about 1.7 times as tall as the Gateway Arch.
Step 3: Gateway Arch and Eiffel Tower at the same scale.

About the Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower is Gustave Eiffel's open-lattice wrought-iron tower on the Champ de Mars in Paris, built for the 1889 Exposition Universelle. Broadcast antennas have raised it above its original 312 m, most recently a DAB+ radio antenna added in March 2022, and it now stands 330 m tall. Its four pillars form a square 125 m on each side, and with all its installations it weighs about 10,100 tonnes.
- Before any antennas were added, the tower was 312 m tall. [1]
- The metal frame on its own weighs 7,300 tonnes. [1]
- Each of the four pillars is 25 m wide at ground level. [1]
- The floors are at 57 m (first), 115 m (second) and 276 m (third) above the ground. [1]
- The English version of the official site gives the current height as 1,083 feet and the original height without antennas as 1,024 feet. [2]
- Broadcast antennas raised the tower to 1,052 ft in 1957 and to 1,063 ft in 2000; a 20 ft DAB+ antenna added in March 2022 brought it to 1,083 ft. [3]
- Construction took 2 years, 2 months and 5 days, from January 28, 1887 to March 31, 1889. [3]
- The staircase in the East pillar has 1,665 steps from the esplanade to the top. [3]
- The tower is built almost entirely of open-lattice wrought iron. [4]
How many fit?
- ≈ 200 × Human · height lined up end to end match the Eiffel Tower · height including antennas
- ≈ 120,000 × Human · body mass on the scales weigh as much as Eiffel Tower · total weight
- ≈ 2.7 × Starship · full-stack height lined up end to end match the Eiffel Tower · height including antennas
Counts divide one sourced figure by another. "End to end" uses each object's main measurement; weight and volume rows appear only when both figures are sourced.
How it compares
- 200× The Eiffel Tower is about 200 times as tall as an average adult. See side by side
- 2.7× The Eiffel Tower is about 2.7 times as tall as SpaceX's Starship. See side by side
- 2.4× The Eiffel Tower is about 2.4 times as tall as the Great Pyramid of Giza. See side by side
- 1/1 The Eiffel Tower is about as tall as an aircraft carrier is long. See side by side
- 1/1.3 The Empire State Building is about 1.3 times as tall as the Eiffel Tower. See side by side
- 1/2.5 The Burj Khalifa is about 2.5 times as tall as the Eiffel Tower. See side by side
Factors compare the height including antennas of the Eiffel Tower with each object’s own main measurement (height for a human). Where a size varies, the factor is given as a range.
Notes on these figures
- The live official site toureiffel.paris returns HTTP 403 to automated requests. Its key-figures pages were read from Internet Archive captures made on 10 Sep 2026 (French) and 21 Sep 2026 (English), which are the URLs cited.
- The French official page gives heights in metres (330 m now, 312 m originally) and the English one gives them in feet (1,083 ft and 1,024 ft). The English page says '10,100 tons' where the French page says '10 100 tonnes', meaning metric tonnes.
- The press kit is SETE's own document but was read from a third-party copy on tarifs.org. It is undated and mentions works due to finish in 2023, so it probably dates from 2022.
- Britannica independently gives the same 330 m (1,083 ft) height and 10,100-ton weight. It also describes the tower as 300 m tall standing on a 5 m base, so quoted 'original heights' depend on what is included.
- The older educational-card PDF hosted by Minecraft Education, cited in the earlier research, was dropped. It is not an official page, and its 'current height' of 324 m is out of date.
