Zoom out from an average adult to the Petronas Towers
The Petronas Towers is too big to show next to an average adult in one picture, so here it is in 3 steps. Each step is drawn to its own scale and zooms out from the step before.
-
Step 1 of 3 Human → Megalodon
A megalodon is about 8.6–15 times as long as an average adult is tall.
Step 1: Human and Megalodon at the same scale. -
Step 2 of 3 Megalodon → Great Pyramid of Giza
The Great Pyramid of Giza is about 5.6–9.1 times as tall as a megalodon is long.
Step 2: Megalodon and Great Pyramid of Giza at the same scale. -
Step 3 of 3 Great Pyramid of Giza → Petronas Towers
The Petronas Towers is about 3.3 times as tall as the Great Pyramid of Giza.
Step 3: Great Pyramid of Giza and Petronas Towers at the same scale.

About the Petronas Towers
The Petronas Towers are two identical 88-storey towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, completed in 1998 and linked by a skybridge at the 41st and 42nd floors. The Skyscraper Center lists each tower at 451.9 m (1,483 ft), both to the architectural top and to the tip. They shared the title of world's tallest building from 1998 until Taipei 101 overtook them in 2004, and they remain the tallest twin towers in the world.
- Each tower has 88 floors above ground and 5 below ground; construction started in 1992 and finished in 1998. [1] [2]
- They are the tallest twin towers in the world and shared the title of world's tallest building from 1998 to 2004, between the Sears Tower and Taipei 101. [1]
- The skybridge at the 41st and 42nd floors gives no structural benefit, but lets the towers share facilities and is part of the fire evacuation plan. [1]
- Two construction consortiums, one Japanese and one South Korean, each built one tower; Tower 2 reached its top first. [1]
- The design is based on Islamic geometry, reflecting Malaysia's cultural heritage. [1]
How many fit?
- ≈ 270 × Human · height lined up end to end match the Petronas Towers · height (architectural)
- ≈ 3.6 × Starship · full-stack height lined up end to end match the Petronas Towers · height (architectural)
Counts divide one sourced figure by another. "End to end" uses each object's main measurement; weight and volume rows appear only when both figures are sourced.
How it compares
- 270× The Petronas Towers is about 270 times as tall as an average adult. See side by side
- 3.6× The Petronas Towers is about 3.6 times as tall as SpaceX's Starship. See side by side
- 3.3× The Petronas Towers is about 3.3 times as tall as the Great Pyramid of Giza. See side by side
- 1.3× The Petronas Towers is about 1.3 times as tall as an aircraft carrier is long. See side by side
- 1× The Petronas Towers is about as tall as the Empire State Building. See side by side
- 1/1.8 The Burj Khalifa is about 1.8 times as tall as the Petronas Towers. See side by side
Factors compare the height (architectural) of the Petronas Towers with each object’s own main measurement (height for a human). Where a size varies, the factor is given as a range.
Notes on these figures
- The Skyscraper Center database now carries the Council on Vertical Urbanism (CVU) name; its height categories are the CTBUH ones (architectural top includes spires but not antennas).
- The Skyscraper Center lists the two towers separately; Tower 1 and Tower 2 have identical heights and floor counts.
- The distance between the two towers was not sourced, so only one tower's height is given.
- World rankings change as new towers are completed; the ranks quoted are as shown on the Skyscraper Center in September 2026.
