Zoom out from an average adult to the Shanghai Tower
The Shanghai Tower is too big to show next to an average adult in one picture, so here it is in 3 steps. Each step is drawn to its own scale and zooms out from the step before.
-
Step 1 of 3 Human → Megalodon
A megalodon is about 8.6–15 times as long as an average adult is tall.
Step 1: Human and Megalodon at the same scale. -
Step 2 of 3 Megalodon → Great Pyramid of Giza
The Great Pyramid of Giza is about 5.6–9.1 times as tall as a megalodon is long.
Step 2: Megalodon and Great Pyramid of Giza at the same scale. -
Step 3 of 3 Great Pyramid of Giza → Shanghai Tower
The Shanghai Tower is about 4.6 times as tall as the Great Pyramid of Giza.
Step 3: Great Pyramid of Giza and Shanghai Tower at the same scale.

About the Shanghai Tower
Shanghai Tower is a mixed-use supertall skyscraper in Shanghai's Lujiazui financial district, completed in 2015. Its twisting, spiralling form stands beside Jin Mao Tower and the Shanghai World Financial Center. The Skyscraper Center gives it an architectural height of 632 m (2,073 ft), the same as its height to tip, with 128 floors above ground.
- Shanghai Tower has 128 floors above ground and 5 below ground. [1]
- Construction started in 2009 and the tower was completed in 2015. [1]
- The Skyscraper Center ranks it the third-tallest building in the world and the tallest in China (September 2026). [1]
- Wind tunnel tests showed its twisting form cuts structural wind loading by 24 percent compared with a rectangular building of the same height. [1]
- The building is split into nine vertical zones, each starting at a sky lobby with a garden atrium. [1]
How many fit?
- ≈ 380 × Human · height lined up end to end match the Shanghai Tower · height (architectural)
- ≈ 3.3 × Gateway Arch · maximum height lined up end to end match the Shanghai Tower · height (architectural)
Counts divide one sourced figure by another. "End to end" uses each object's main measurement; weight and volume rows appear only when both figures are sourced.
How it compares
- 380× The Shanghai Tower is about 380 times as tall as an average adult. See side by side

Factors compare the height (architectural) of the Shanghai Tower with each object’s own main measurement (height for a human). Where a size varies, the factor is given as a range.
Notes on these figures
- The Skyscraper Center database now carries the Council on Vertical Urbanism (CVU) name; its height categories are the CTBUH ones (architectural top includes spires but not antennas).
- World rankings change as new towers are completed; the ranks quoted are as shown on the Skyscraper Center in September 2026.
