Dimensions
About the credit card
Payment cards use the ID-1 size, one of four card sizes defined in the international standard ISO/IEC 7810 for identification cards. An ID-1 card is nominally 85.60 mm wide, 53.98 mm high and 0.76 mm thick. The same standard also defines larger ID-2 and ID-3 sizes for other documents.
How many fit?
- ≈ 20 × Credit card · width lined up end to end match the Human · height
- ≈ 1.7 × AA battery · overall height lined up end to end match the Credit card · width
Counts divide one sourced figure by another. "End to end" uses each object's main measurement; weight and volume rows appear only when both figures are sourced.
How it compares
- 1.7× A credit card is about 1.7 times as wide as an AA battery is tall. See side by side
- 1/2.7 A baseball is about 2.7 times as around as a credit card is wide. See side by side
- 1/1.4 A soda can is about 1.4 times as tall as a credit card is wide. See side by side
- 1/2.2 A pencil is about 2.2 times as long as a credit card is wide. See side by side
- 1/3.5 A sheet of A4 paper is about 3.5 times as tall as a credit card is wide. See side by side
- 1/20 An average adult is about 20 times as tall as a credit card is wide. See side by side
Factors compare the width of a credit card with each object’s own main measurement (height for a human). Where a size varies, the factor is given as a range.
Notes on these figures
- Values are the nominal ID-1 dimensions; the standard allows small tolerances, which are not listed here, and notes its SI and imperial values are rounded separately.
- No official source giving the mass of a card was found, so mass is left out.
