Zoom out from an average adult to Angel Falls
Angel Falls is too big to show next to an average adult in one picture, so here it is in 3 steps. Each step is drawn to its own scale and zooms out from the step before.
-
Step 1 of 3 Human → Megalodon
A megalodon is about 8.6–15 times as long as an average adult is tall.
Step 1: Human and Megalodon at the same scale. -
Step 2 of 3 Megalodon → Great Pyramid of Giza
The Great Pyramid of Giza is about 5.6–9.1 times as tall as a megalodon is long.
Step 2: Megalodon and Great Pyramid of Giza at the same scale. -
Step 3 of 3 Great Pyramid of Giza → Angel Falls
Angel Falls is about 7.1 times as tall as the Great Pyramid of Giza.
Step 3: Great Pyramid of Giza and Angel Falls at the same scale.

About Angel Falls
Angel Falls, also known as Kerepakupai Merú, is the world's tallest waterfall, in Canaima National Park in Bolívar state, southeastern Venezuela. It pours off the flat-topped Auyán-tepui and falls a total of 979 m (3,212 ft), including a single uninterrupted drop of 807 m (2,648 ft). The falls were named after the American pilot Jimmie Angel, who flew over them in the 1930s.
- The falls are on a branch of the Carrao River, an upper tributary of the Caroní, and are best seen from the air because of the dense jungle around them. [2] [1]
- The height was last surveyed by a National Geographic expedition in 1949. Guinness notes that if only the 807 m drop counted, the 948 m multi-drop Tugela Falls in South Africa would be the tallest waterfall overall. [2]
- The Pemón name Kerepakupai Merú means 'waterfall of the deepest place'. In 2009 Venezuela's president declared that this Indigenous name should be used. [2] [1]
- Canaima National Park covers about 3 million hectares, and roughly 65% of it is table mountain (tepui) formations. [3]
How many fit?
- ≈ 580 × Human · height lined up end to end match the Angel Falls · total height
- ≈ 3.6 × Titanic · length overall lined up end to end match the Angel Falls · total height
Counts divide one sourced figure by another. "End to end" uses each object's main measurement; weight and volume rows appear only when both figures are sourced.
How it compares
- 580× Angel Falls is about 580 times as tall as an average adult. See side by side
- 3.6× Angel Falls is about 3.6 times as tall as the Titanic is long. See side by side
- 2.4× Angel Falls is about 2.4 times as tall as a container ship is long. See side by side
- 1.8× Angel Falls is about 1.8 times as tall as One World Trade Center. See side by side
- 1.2× Angel Falls is about 1.2 times as tall as the Burj Khalifa. See side by side
- 1/2.8 The Golden Gate Bridge is about 2.8 times as long as Angel Falls is tall. See side by side
Factors compare the total height of Angel Falls with each object’s own main measurement (height for a human). Where a size varies, the factor is given as a range.
Notes on these figures
- No Venezuelan park authority page could be found; UNESCO's Canaima page gives only a rounded 1,000 m for the world's highest waterfall, so the 979 m and 807 m figures come from Britannica and Guinness World Records.
- The 979 m total includes cascades below the main plunge; some question whether all of it should count as one waterfall.
- Britannica says Jimmie Angel crash-landed nearby in 1937, while Guinness says he recorded the falls after flying over them in November 1933.
- The waterfall outline is illustrative; only its height is to scale.
